Vintage, 9ct Gold Emerald and Diamond Paste Crescent Moon Brooch

This is a beautiful 9ct Gold Emerald Paste and Diamond Paste crescent moon brooch, complete with safety chain. It features 9 graduating emerald paste stones from top to bottom and 16 diamond paste stones, arranged in pairs between each green paste stone. Stunning gold work is detailed on both edges, adding to the wonderful detail and making this piece really unique.

Crescent moons have a lot of symbolism attached to them and in Victorian times, were representative of the changing of the seasons in one's life. They were often worn after marriage or after a new addition to the family.

This crescent measures 5cm from top to bottom and 5mm wide. It weighs 5.31g. It is not hallmarked but it has been tested for 9ct Gold and i would date it to the 1920s.

Please note again that the stones are not real emeralds and diamonds - they are paste. Paste is glass that has been hand cut and polished to mimick a gemstone. It was introduced in the 18th Century for those who could not afford to wear real gems but wanted to shimmer with the best of them!
