Victorian 18ct Gold Antique Vinaigrette Pendant

This stunning and unusual Victorian Vinaigrette is a real piece of history.  Crafted from 18ct Gold, it features wonderful engraving over its entirety, a little compartment for the oils/perfume, and a door to open to release the aromas.   Both lids open and close perfectly.  

This historial pendant measures 1.7cm x 1.1cm and it weighs 2.48g

Before effective personal hygiene habits became common place, ladies carried Vinaigrettes to mask the smells and odors wafting through their environment; open sewers, animal dung, pollution etc.  They were also thought to protect against disease.   A little bit of sponge was  soaked in perfume or fragrant oils and placed beneath the perforated cover - brought out when needed1
