Antique, 15ct Gold 'Mizpah' Locket, 10.41g

This wonderful Victorian locket was such a special and unique antique find.  

The oval locket, which is crafted from 15ct Gold features raised lettering diagonally across its centre with the words: 'MIZPAH'. 

Mizpah jewellery was popular during the Victorian era from the mid- to late-1800s and tended to serve as sweetheart jewellery, given to a loved one during a period of long separation such as military service or travel.   The word Mizpah comes from the Old Testament (Genesis 31:49, "And Mizpah; for he said, The Lord watch between me and thee, when we are absent from one another") 

No hallmarks remain on this incredible locket, but it has been tested and verified as 15ct Gold which means it was made before 1932.  It measures  4.5cm x 2.8c5 and it weighs 10.41g.
