Unusual, Antique, 15ct Gold Engraved Buckle Shepherds Hook with Enamelled Slider

This is such an unusual and original piece! Crafted in 15ct Gold (acid tested but not marked) this is a multi-function connector/pendant with so much sentimental value.

The black enamelled barrel allows through a 5mm chain. Black enamel decoration and stunning engraving cover the barrel on all sides with very minimal loss.

Hanging from the barrel is a large shepherds hook (2.9cm long) on the face of which is a buckle design with black enamel and intricate engravings. The buckle is present on both sides so can be worn both ways. The buckle was a popular design in the late 1800s and early 1900s when sentimental jewellery was at its height. Buckles on jewellery were given as love tokens. They symbolised the binding love between the giver and the wearer of the ring and also represented loyalty and memory.

The barrel hole measures 5mm and is 1.6cm long. The whole piece measures 4.5cm long and weighs 6.17g.

This piece could be worn as a pendant, to hang a chain, to hold a pendant or hang from another pendant/connector
