Rare, Vintage, 16 inch, Ruby Eyed 9ct Snake Necklace, 37g

This splendid vintage snake necklace is a rare, and highly sought after item. Crafted in solid 9ct Gold, it measures 16 inches long (6mm wide) and features an engraved snake head (with a drop of approximately 2cm), with ruby eyes, at its centre. The smooth engraved links on the chain are in excellent condition with no dinks or dents and the snake link itself is extremely comfortable to wear around the neck.

It does up securely with a barrel clasp, which is marked for 9ct Gold and its makers mark; D.J. There is a date and Assay mark, but it has been rubbed and i am unable to read it. I would date it to the 1950s. The closure has the additional benefit of a security latch and the entire necklace weighs a heavy 37g.

This vintage necklace, which is likely from the 1940s/1950s, is an absolute joy to wear. It is comfortable, substantial, and sits on the neck beautifully.  The snake has bundles of character, from its ruby eyes to its beautifully engraved head.
