Rare, Antique, 9ct Gold Amethyst, Heart Padlock Pendant/Clasp

Set in 9ct gold, this rare and substantial antique padlock pendant is in full working order and snaps shut nicely and firmly. It is beautifully and ornately engraved on the front and reverse, and features a deep purple amethyst cabachon at its centre. Its reverse revelas a locket back with a glass cover.

This is a great sized padlock, measuring 3cm x 2cm and weighing 4.93g. It remains in splendid condition with the gem still firmly set. The locket back border reveals some damage where a previous owner or jeweller has roughly tried to remove the glass with the wrong tools and disturbed the surrounding area. But the back is still secure and none of this can be seen when the padlock is worn.

Antique and vintage jewellery is heavy in symbolism and such padlocks were usually given and worn as love tokens.

This beautiful padlock's versitility means you can either slip it onto a split ring or charm bracelet, or thread a chain through its clasp, to wear as a pendant.
