Rare, Antique, 15ct Gold Scarab Beetle and Ivy Leaf Pendant

This exquisite Victorian 15ct Gold scarab beetle pendant is set on a 15ct Gold bezel with a claw setting for security. The pendant features ivy leaves on its top, symbolising everlasting love and representive of the sentimental phrase, 'cling to thee'

This iridescent beetle shell has been beautifully preserved and is free of any dinks or defects. It measures 2.5cm long, 1.5 wide, and weighs 1.36g.

Scarab Beetle jewellery had a revival both in the 1800s and then again during the Art Deco movement of the 1920s. The beetles were originally imported from Egypt and were used in jewellery as emblems of eternal life; the rolling of the dung ball that this beetle does as part of a mating ritual was thought to represent the circle of eternal life.
