Antique, Victorian 9ct Gold Curb Link 'Night and Day' Bracelet (22.40g)

This is an extremely beautiful Victorian 9ct yellow gold curb bracelet with an exquisitly decorated heart padlock and its own safety chain.

To fit a 7 - 7.5inch wrist, this classical curb bracelet features alternating engraved and plain links on one side, and plain links all the way round on the other. The Victorians called bracelets decorated like this "Night & Day” bracelets as they were reversible and could be worn for night or daywear. The plain side was worn during the day and then it was turned over to its chased side for evening wear. The fashion for these bracelets has continued from Victorian times right through to the 21st Century where they remain a classic and iconic piece for many women today.

This good sized, chunky bracelet remains in excellent antique condition. It has been cleaned and polished, and bears no dinks or dents.

This bracelet has a healthy weight of 22.40g, allowing it to move comfortably on the wrist. Its links are large and chunky and measure 1cm x 1cm. It is marked for 9ct Gold on every link, and its large (1.8cm x 2cm) and beautifully engraved heart padlock, is marked with 9ct Gold and its makers mark, W.J S.
