Antique, Victorian 18ct Gold Sapphire and Diamond Buckle Ring, Hallmarked for 18ct Gold, Chester and 1886

Dating to 1886, this  very sweet buckle ring is a wonderful example of antique sweetheart jewellery.   It features two deep blue sapphires separated by a sparkling diamond, in a traditional buckle design.   The gems are well set on a substantial 18ct gold band which displays crisp and original hallmarks for 18ct Gold, Chester and the year 1886. A lovely millegrain design borders the entirety of the band.

Buckle rings were prevalent in the Victorian era, when sentimental jewellery was extremely popular.  Buckles on jewellery were given as love tokens.  They symbolised the binding love between the giver and the wearer of the ring.  They were also regarded as symbols of loyalty and memory.

This is a stunning and classical piece which would compliment any jewellery collection.
