Antique, Silver 'Fumsup' Good Luck Charm, Paste Eyes, Wooden Head and Registration 636612 (Year: 1914)
This, now rare, original First World War Good Luck Charm is steeped in history.
Crafted in the form of a silver miniature doll or baby, this wonderful lucky charm features a wooden head and a solid silver body, complete with its registration mark for the year 1914, the start of World War 1.
The word 'Fumsup' is displayed accross the front of the doll, and its arms, with fingers doing a thumbs up gesture, can move up to touch its head, allowing the doll to 'touch wood'. Little wings on the ankles, and paste eyes complete the look of this wonderful keepsake.
These lovely lucky charms were most often sent to soldiers in the first world war, who hooked them on to a button or on a charm chain and wore them for luck. They were sent with a card which contained the following poem:
"Behold in me the birth of luck, two charms combined TOUCH WOOD-FUMSUP, my head is made of wood most rare, my thumbs turnup to touch me there. To speed my feet they've Cupids wings, they'll help true love amongst other things. Proverbial is my power to bring good luck to you in everything. I'll bring good luck to all away, just send me to a friend today.
This sweet charm measures 3cm long by 1cm wide.
