Antique, Pinchbeck Garnet Padlock Bracelet

This incredible antique bracelet has so much to offer.  Crafted in antique Pinchbeck (not solid gold), it features a wonderful working padlock with a huge cabachon garnet at its centre.  

The links of this bracelet are ornately decorated, and incredible to look at.  They alternative with circular hoops and double rings, and provide movement and texture to the chain which will fit a  5 1/2 to 6 inch wrist.

The bracelet including the padlock weighs 23.97g and the padlock alone measures 5g.

A note about Pinchbeck:  Christopher Pinchbeck, was born in Clerkenwell, England in  the 1670s, and it was he who invented what became known as Pinchbeck, the eponymous alloy, and which was used as a subsitute for gold.  At that time, pinchbeck because extremely popular as it opened up the jewellery market for people who could not afford to buy 18ct Gold.
