This exquisite pinchbeck fancy link chain, dates to the Georgian era, and has beautifully engraved links, the likes of which you no longer see today.
This rare and wonderful chain measures 16 inches long, 8mm wide and weighs 32g.
The clasp of the chain is not pinchbeck and tests as 15ct Gold. It is a later addition to the chain, but remains in the style of the era and works as a beautifully engraved push-in clasp with turquoise detail, providing a welcome pop of colour.
This chain, and its clasp remain in exceptional condition for its age.

A note about Pinchbeck: Christopher Pinchbeck, was born in Clerkenwell, England in the 1670s, and it was he who invented what became known as Pinchbeck, the eponymous alloy, and which was used as a subsitute for gold. At that time, pinchbeck because extremely popular as it opened up the jewellery market for people who could not afford to buy 18ct Gold.
Today, and as proven by how this chain looks more than 200 years later, you can see that it does not tarnish and emulates a higher carat gold. A fabulous and highly collectable substitue which wont break the bank, in details that you no longer see in modern, massmade jewelry.
