Antique, 9ct Yellow Gold Mizpah Ring, Hallmarked Birmingham, 1900

This is an incredibly striking and antique 'Mizpah' ring, crafted in a buttery 9ct gold. 

Raised letters sit across the centre spell the word 'Mizpah', which derives from the Old Testament. (Genesis 31:49, "And Mizpah; for he said, The Lord watch between me and thee, when we are absent from one another") 

A horse shoe, giving luck to the wearer, sits at the centre of the ring decorated by two rose cut diamonds, a ruby and two garnets.

This ring is currently a UK size N, which is a US size 7, but it could be re-sized.   It weighs 1.8g and its band measures 8mm at its widest point and 3mm at the back of the band. It is fully hallmarked for 9ct Gold, BIrmingham, and the year 1900.

Mizpah jewellery was popular during the Victorian era from the mid- to late-1800s and has masses of sentimental value.  It tended to serve as sweetheart jewellery, given to a loved one during a period of long separation such as military service or travel.
