Antique, Pinchbeck Victorian Pierced Link Long Guard chain 52 inches, 22.19g

This very rare and difficult to come by pierced link long guard chain measures 54 inches long, 2mm wide, and is crafted in Pinchbeck (not gold). It weighs 22.19g

The links of this chain sit smoothly next to each other, catching the light beautifully, with the very sought after pierced links (pierced on all 4 sides) which were popular in the Georgian and Victorian eras. 

A pinchbeck dog clip hangs at the base of the chain enhancing its styling possibilities and giving the wearer opportunities to attach a split ring, pendants or charms.

Long Guard/Muff Chains have been a fashion staple for over a century, and at their original length, they are highly sought after. This chain is beautiful worn alone, but can also be part of a stack with longer or shorter chains. The dog clip offers yet more possibilities to add pendants or charms.

A note about Pinchbeck:  Christopher Pinchbeck, was born in Clerkenwell, England in the 1670s, and it was he who invented what became known as Pinchbeck, the eponymous alloy, and which was used as a subsitute for gold.  At that time, pinchbeck was extremely popular as it opened up the jewellery market for people who could not afford to buy 18ct Gold.
