Antique, 9ct Gold Skull Ring, Hallmarked, Birmingham 1913

This rare, antique memento mori skull ring is crafted from solid 9ct gold. This incredible skull probably began its ilfe as a stick pin, but has been sympathetically converted to a ring atop a split shouldered band. The band is marked for Birmingham, 1913.

Memento Mori jewellery, which translates from Latin as “Remember you must die'" has been celebrated since the 17th century, and was worn in the Victorian era as a reminder of the inevitability of death and the need to live life to the fullest.

Currently a UK size O which is a US size 7 1/4, the face of this ring measures 10mm x 12mm , and has great finger coverage. It is in excellent antique condition and the gold has a picked up a lovely patina. It weighs a healthy 4.86g of solid 9ct gold.
