Antique, 18ct Gold, Victorian, 'Dearest' Acrostic Multi Gemstone Ring

This is an extremely beautiful 18ct Gold 'Dearest' ring from the Victorian era. Its multi-gem petals feature 7 gems comprising a central rose cut diamond, and in cabochon cuts; 2 bright green emeralds, a deep purple amethyst, a blood red ruby, a deep blue sapphire and a tourmaline. The first letter of each precious gemstone spells out the word, 'DEAREST'.

The gems sit around the central diamond like petals and give this ring its unique romantic quality. Each petal is surrounded by wonderful gold bead detail and makes up a very pretty flower motif.

This antique acrostic ring would have been given to a loved one as a token of affection to demonstrate that they were the 'dearest' to their loved one.

This ring is a UK size P which is a US 7 1/2. It weighs 1.79g.

This ring is in fabulous condition for its age. It no longer bears its original hallmarks, probably due to re-sizing within its lifetime, but. i would date it to the late 1800s.

As with all antique jewellery, i would advise great care when wearing a ring of this age and type. It is extremely old and the gems which are mainly cabochon set, although secure, should be treated with care. I would always advise removing such a ring before any washing up, bathing sporting activity etc)
