Antique, 18 Gold, Diamond Buckle Ring, Hallmarked for Chester, 1896

Clearly Hallmarked for 18ct Gold, Chester and the year 1896, this is a really super antique buckle ring from the Victorian era. 

It features three tiny diamonds across the clasp area of the face, and beautifully detailed engraving on the rest of the buckle.  The band has great finger coverage; 8mm on its widest part, and 3mm at the back of the band. 

Buckle rings were prevalent in the Victorian era, when sentimental jewellery was extremely popular. Buckles on jewellery were given as love tokens. They symbolised the binding love between the giver and the wearer of the ring. They were also regarded as symbols of loyalty and memory.

This ring is a UK size J, which is a US size 5.
