18ct Gold, Antique Victorian 'Regard' Acrostic, Multi-gem Brooch, 6.74g

This wonderfully romantic, and rare antique brooch, spells out the word  'REGARD' with the first letter of each gem: Ruby, Emerald, Garnet, Amethyst, Ruby and Diamond (Antique rose cut)

The gems sit horizontally in the centre of the rectangular brooch inside two layers of incredible gold engraving. The gems sit in what looks like their original settings, and remain in great condition.  There are no hallmarks,  but this piece has been tested for 18ct Gold and i would date it to the mid-Victorian era.  It measures 3.7cm x 1.7cm and weighs 6.74g.

The reverse reveals a locket back, but it would need to be opened up by a jeweller. 

This style of antique brooch would have been given to a loved one as a token of affection, and to demonstrate that the wearer was held in high regard.
