18ct Gold and Platinum Opal and Rose Cut Diamond Cluster Ring

This is a stunning and rather unusual Art Deco statement ring dating to the late 1920s. It features a fiery opal bordered by 10 very lively rose cut diamonds arranged in a beautiful flower motif. The platinum gallery is supported by an 18ct Gold band, which is marked 18ct.

The central opal measures approximately 5mm by 6.5mm and the entire face of the ring, including the diamond border meaures approximately 1.2cm by 1cm. The ring is currently (but re-sizable) a UK size O and a US size 7 1/4. It weighs 3.86g

This is a real showstopper of a ring; an original antique with hand cut rose cut diamonds and a stunning central opal which flashes an array of colours, most noticably, blue, purple and bright orange as the light hits its core. It would make a superb engagement ring, or a very romantic gift to a loved one.

Opal is the birthstone for October ... The name opal is thought to be derived from the Sanskrit upala, meaning “precious stone,” and later the Greek derivative “Opallios,” meaning “to see a change of color.”

Opals are sometimes referred to as the Queen of Gemstones and are considered a semi precious stone. They are also said to be Queen Victoria’s favourite gemstone, and they were extremely popular throughout her reign.
