15ct gold, Art Nouveau, Heart-shaped locket/pendant, with Diamond Trefoil Decoration

Crafted from 15ct Gold, this heart shaped pendant/locket, is an example of sweetheart jewellery at its very finest. It is a great size at 1.7cm x 1.6cm and it weighs 2.79g. It features a beautiful trefoil design at its centre, with three diamond leaves.

The trefoil (from the Latin trifolium, meaning, 'three-leaved plant') has been adorned on jewellery in the past to symbolise perpetuity, with the three leaves representing the past, present and future. It is also sometimes a symbol of fertility and abundance. In Christian contexts it is used as a symbol for the Holy Trinity: the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

This locket is not hallmarked, but has been machine tested for 15ct gold and i would date it to the Art Nouveau period. It opens up into two compartments and one has its backing frame and cover, ready for a photo or momento to be placd inside.
