15ct Gold, Antique Unusual Square Locket/Keepsake box / pendant

This is one of the most interesting pieces I have come across.  It is a very finely detailed antique locket, crafted in 15 carat gold and featuring four lustrious seed pearls at its centre.  

The surrounding corners of this unusual locket are filled with hand finished scalloped edges and ornate engraving of leaves.  The detail is meticulous and splendid, and speaks of craftmanship of a time gone by.     

The locket opens at the bottom and reveals a little compartment, in which a keepsake, or possibly snuff was once kept. The locket closes securely and looks wonderful hanging from a chain.

The square (not including the crown on top or its bale) measures 1.2cm x 1.2cm and weighs an impressive 4.52g.
