Vintage (1970s), 18ct Gold, Platinum, Emerald and Diamond Ring

This wonderful vintage ring features a large rectangular shaped emerald in a claw setting, and bordered by 14 twinkling diamonds set in platinum. The head of the ring measures 1cm x 8mm and it weighs 4.46g. Its size means it gives great finger coverage as well as an incredible all round lively sparkle. 

The band is not hallmarked, probably due to a previous re-size but it has been machine tested for 18ct Gold and it measures a UK size J 1/2, which is a US size 5. It is hallmarked for the year 1975 and what looks like London. It has been machine tested for 19ct Gold.

The condition of the ring is good. This unique emerald has a wonderful inclusions to one of its corners (please see pictures and video) which look to me like pyrite crystals within the emerald. These nautral inclusions shows that the crystal is natural, and (to me) makes the stone all the more interesting and unique! I can see under a loupe that the ring has possibly had a knock and the emerald has moved a little in its setting over time, but it is firmly claw set (Not moving in its setting) and completely secure.

This is a fabulous antique style that would work just as well as a timeless engagement ring as it would a statement ring.

Emeralds have long been known as the symbol of truth and love, so this design has traditionally worked very well as an engagement ring. Indeed, in ancient times, the emerald was considered to be the stone of love, its green color representing vitality and new beginnings. For this reason, it is often looked at as the right gemstone to represent happy new beginnings, love and an eternal relationship.
