Vintage 1930s Silver & Enamel Lucky Chimney Sweep Disc Charm with Lucky Pig and Four Leaf Clover

This is a wonderful vintage 1930's European silver and enamel lucky chimney sweep disc charm.  The picture is beautifully detailed with bags of charming symbolism; The enamel picture depicts  a chimney sweep (thought to be lucky if you touch one)  wearing red shoes (for prosperity) carrying a ladder (ambition and moving up in the world) and a bunch of flowers (for his sweetheart?). Hanging from his ladder is a four leaf clover  (lucky charm) and he a little pig (also lucky) trots at his heels.   This charm was clearly made to depict, love, luck and prosperity, perhaps a wedding gift, or a gift to a loved one.

This beautiful silver disk measures  15mm in diameter, excluding the suspension bale, and weighs 2g.  It is marked 835 for European silver and it remains in excellent condition.   It could be worn around the neck on a chain, or added to a charm bracelet.

A note about chimney sweeps:  During the 1700s, it's believed that a chimney sweep saved the life of King George II by stopping his runaway horse and carriage. The king issued a Royal Decree that Chimney Sweeps were bringers of good luck and that they should be treated with the greatest of respect.  SInce then, it has been thought that touching a chimney sweep will bring you luck..
