Rare, Art Nouveau, 18ct Gold, Diamond and Sapphire Snake Pendant/Clip/Slider

I was really excited to find this very unique and rare piece.  Deriving from France and crafted from 18ct Gold, this stunning piece is extremely versitile; working as a slider/clip for a chain or worn on a chain as a pendant. 

(How it works: If you turn the snake onto its underside, a pin can be pulled from its hinge which allows it to open up and grip a chain.)

Snakes, according to jewellery's romantic language symbolise everlasting love, so this one is for all you romantics out there!  Featuring 3 diamonds and 2 saphires, it has an ornately engraved face and body - with incredible detail spreading all the way down to the end of its tail. 

It measures 3.5cm long, and 1.6cm wide, and weighs 3.16g of solid 18ct Gold.  There are no hallmaks on this snake, but it has been tested for 18ct Gold. I would date it to the Art Nouveau period.
