Vintage, 15ct Gold Ruby Eyed, Rose Cut Diamond encrusted Skull Ring, 3.72g

I was very lucky to come across another of these very popular vintage memento mori skull rings recently.  This one is crafted from solid 15ct gold. It features two great sized pinky/red ruby eyes set into a silver face encrusted with rose cut diamonds. These antique diamonds which have been cut by hand sparkle beautifully even in the lowest light.

There are no hallmarks on the ring but i would date the skull to the 1930s, where it probably originally served as a stick pin or brooch, before being converted to a ring more recently.

Memento Mori jewellery, which translates from Latin as “Remember you must die'" has been celebrated since the 17th century, and was worn in the Victorian era as a reminder of the inevitability of death and the need to live life to the fullest.

By, the face of this ring measures 1.6cm x 1.3cm, so has great finger coverage. It is in excellent condition - the gems are firmly set and the gold band, which is beuatifully engraved all the way around has a lovely patina which only age can produce. It weighs a comfortable 3.72g
