This absolutely stunning and unusual Victorian perfume bottle is a real piece of history.  Fully hallmarked for Sterling Silver, Birmingham and the date 1901, it features a stunning Pansy flower, its flowers and leaves crafted in 9ct gold on its front.  The lid opens beautifully on fully working hinge, and it could be filled with perfume, or smelling salts.

This antique bottle is beautifully detailed on its neck and lid, with ornate decoration typical of the Victorian period, and is attached to its original silver chain and hoop.   It could be worn as a pendant around the neck, on a short or longer chain.

In this period, jewellery often featured flowers with symbolic meanings, and the pansy was often used on jewellery to represent love, thoughts, and compassion.  "Pansy" comes from the French word "pensee," which means "thought." It was thus named because the flower, which resembles a human face, appears to nod forward as if in deep thought in the month of August.
