Victorian, 18 inch, Pinchbeck Engraved Fancy Chain (14.92g)

This exquisite pinchbeck necklace, dated to the mid-Victorian era, has the most beautifully engraved decoration all the way around every link and it is held together by a secure spring ring clasp.

The chain measures 18 inches long and 3mm wide.  It weighs in at 14.92g.

A note about Pinchbeck:  Christopher Pinchbeck, was born in Clerkenwell, England in  the 1670s, and it was he who invented what became known as Pinchbeck, the eponymous alloy, and which was used as a subsitute for gold.  At that time, pinchbeck because extremely popular as it opened up the jewellery market for people who could not afford to buy 18ct Gold.
