Antique, 22ct Gold Momento Mori Ring, Hallmarked, 22ct Gold, London 1894

This rare, antique memento mori ring is crafted from solid 22ct gold.   The band is marked for 22ct Gold, London, and the Victorian year, 1894. It features a wonderful drawing of a skeleton in black enamel.

Memento Mori jewellery, which translates from Latin as “Remember you must die'" has been celebrated since the 17th century, and was worn in the Victorian era as a reminder of the inevitability of death and the need to live life to the fullest. 

Currently a UK size P which is a US size 7 134, the width of this ring measures  4mm all the way round. ,It is in excellent antique condition and the gold has a picked up a lovely patina.  It weighs 2.12g.
