Sterling Silver, Vintage River Pearl Necklace with Fancy Clasp.

This classic pearl necklace dates to the 1940s. It features 77 strung river pearls done up with a sterling silver decorated clasp. It measures 19 inches long, 5mm wide and weighs in at 17.45g. It is marked for Sterling Silver on its clasp.

The clasp, which benefits from the addition of a safety chain is quite beautifully decorated in a cicrular fan design with a pearl at its centre.

River, or Freshwater pearls as they are sometimes callsed, are natural, just like saltwater pearls, but as they are more abundant, they are less expensive. They should be looked after very carefully, just as you would with salt water pearls, and they will last a lifetime.
