3rd payment Priya Rare, Victorian, Indian 22ct Gold, Gem Set Mughal Pendant, 16.40g

Mughal style jewellery was prevalent during the Mughal Dynasty in India between 1526 and the middle of the Victorian Era in 1857.   You can learn more (and see examples) of this beautiful jewellery at the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Probably made in or around 1850, this stunning pendant has all the hallmarks of Mughal origins.   The Mughal emperors were known for their love of luxury and grandeur, and this flamboyancy is demonstrated in this incredibly rare pendant with its bright tear shaped colours, precious gems and high carat gold.  

The gold work around the outside of the gems is known as 'Kundan Technique', and is a traditional Indian jewellery method whereby gold foil is used to secure each gem. Incredible Meenakari enamelling is present on the reverse in a stunningm bright floral design.

This pendant is 3.6cm x 3.5cm and weighs an impressive 16.40g.  The pendant has been tested for 22ct Gold, and its bale for 9ct Gold.

The larger petals around the outside comprise, white sapphire, emerald, opal, citrine, pearl, amethyst, chrysoberyl, garnet, moonstone, turquoise, Ruby and Sapphire. The centre stones comprise a white sapphire, pearls and rubies.  

I would say that this pendant is in excellent condition with minimal enamel loss and secure stones.
