Rare, Art Nouveau, 15ct Gold Blue Enamel, Locket Back Heart Padlock Pendant

Set in 15ct gold, this rare and beautiful Art Nouveau antique padlock pendant is in full working order and snaps shut nicely. It is beautifully and ornately decorated on the front and it has a locket compartment on its reverse; currently filled with hair. (I can remove this if you would like me to)

The floral decoration to the front of this locket looks a little like a grape vine - the leaves in gold, and the grapes depicted by pearls. Antique and vintage jewellery is heavy in symbolism and grapes were often viewed as a symbol of abundance and fertility.

This padlock measures 2.5cm x 1.3cm. It remains in splendid condition with only the most minimal enamel loss seen at the very top of the padlock.  It is a weight of 1.93g. This beautiful padlock's versitility means you can either slip it onto a split ring or charm bracelet, or thread a fine chain through its central bale, to wear it as a pendant.
