Rare, Antique, 9ct Gold, Masonic Sphere Ladder with Skull and Crossbones (7.7g)

This is an extremely rare and collectable masonic fob ball, which opens up into a fold out ladder of detailed masonic symbols.

The sphere itself is decorated with longitude and latitude markings on its exterior, and is topped with the masonic compass and star symbols

The ball opens up to reveal a pull down ladder of masonic symbols; the two pillars representing strength and establishment, the freemasonary icon of a square, representing morality and righteousness, and a compass, representing spirituality and the circle of life.  Next, the 'blazing star' symbol which represents God's diving providence, and acts as a guiding light to direct Masons, and finally, the skull and crossbones, which was a symbol of mortality and the transient nature of life, and used to remind Masons of the importance of living with purpose.

This super fob is stamped with its registraion number: 69174 and its makers mark L & S.  It is also marked for 9ct gold on its base. 

The fob measures approximately 1.7cm diameter and 9cm length when the ladder is pulled out in its entirety. It weighs a substantial 7.7g
