Large, Georgian Aquamarine Paste Pendant

This impressive pendant is made of paste (immitation glass) which has been cut and polished to look like a real gem, in this case; Aquamarine.  Is is beautifully cut so that it picks up and reflects the light around it. 

It also has the most beautiful border, made up of mixed colour metals beautifully engraved into little flowers.  This stunning pendant, handmade by a jeweller more than a hundred years ago, is a completely unique.

This stunning piece of history measures 3cm x 2.5cm and weighs 7.51g. 

Paste is hand-cut glass that has been polished so that its immitates the look and behaviour of a gemstone, shimmering and sparkling,  in this case, like an Aquamarine. Paste was very popular in the Georgian and Victorian Eras.   Jewellers could still create lavish, unique and intricate pieces for their clients,  but at a fraction of the price of those made for richer clients who were able to afford  materials such as gold and gemstones.
