Antique, Victorian 18ct Gold Ruby Buckle Ring, Hallmarked for 18ct Gold, London and 1917 (7.52g)

Dating to 1917, (making it 106 years old), this incredible buckle ring is a wonderful example of antique sweetheart jewellery. It features 2 beautiful cabachon rubies, set into a ring in the traditional buckle design. The gems are well set on this substantial 9ct gold band (measuring 8 mm all the way round) , which also displays original and crisp hallmarks for 9ct Gold, London and the year 1917.

Weighing a very heavy 7.52g, this buckle ring is a UK size 0 1/2 which is US size 7 1/2.

Buckle rings were prevalent in the Victorian era, when sentimental jewellery was extremely popular. Buckles on jewellery were given as love tokens. They symbolised the binding love between the giver and the wearer of the ring. They were also regarded as symbols of loyalty and memory.
