Antique, Victorian, 15ct Gold, Double Diamond Buckle Ring. Hallmarked, 15ct Gold, Chester and 1876

This is an extremely impressive diamond buckle ring from the late nineteenth century. It is fully hallmarked for 15ct Gold, Chester and the year 1876. The lively diamonds are claw set in their own square settings.

The substantial band, which features a lovely milgrain decoration around its entirety, is crafted in a buttery 18ct Gold, and is crafted to resemble a buckle / belt, which was a popular design in the late 1800s and early 1900s when sentimental jewellery was at its height. Buckles on jewellery were given as love tokens. They symbolised the binding love between the giver and the wearer of the ring. They were also known as symbols of loyalty and memory.
