Antique, 9ct Rose Gold Engraved Buckle Ring, Hallmarked for 9ct Gold and Birmingham (5.89g)

Clearly hallmarked for 9ct Gold and Birmingham (the year letter has been rubbed), this is a really super antique buckle ring.  It features the most exquisite engraving of ivy leaves and forget me not flowers on a wonderful wide 9ct rosy gold band.   The buckle itself is large and the clasp and loop are substantial.  Their solid plain structure adds some interesting texture to this otherwise very detailed ring.

This ring is a UK size O 1/2 which is a US size 7 1/2,.  It measures 10mm at the widest part of the band and 6mm at the thinnest part (where it sits underneath the finger) and weighs a heavy 5.89g.  

This is a substantial piece of jewellery, which provides fabulous finger coverage and is an extremely worthy investment.  It has been lightly cleaned and is ready to wear!

Buckle rings were prevalent in the Victorian era, when sentimental jewellery was extremely popular.  Buckles on jewellery were given as love tokens.  They symbolised the binding love between the giver and the wearer of the ring.  They were also regarded as symbols of loyalty and memory.
