Antique, 9ct Gold Mizpah Ring, Hallmarked Chester, 1906

This is an incredibly striking, antique 'Mizpah' ring, with beautiful raised letters accross its face, in a wonderful 9ct rosy gold.  It is fully hallmarked for 9ct Gold, Chester, and the year, 1906

Capital letters sit across the centre of this antique ring, spelling the word 'Mizpah', which derives from the Old Testament. (Genesis 31:49, "And Mizpah; for he said, The Lord watch between me and thee, when we are absent from one another")

Mizpah jewellery was popular during the Victorian era from the mid- to late-1800s and has masses of sentimental value.  It tended to serve as sweetheart jewellery, given to a loved one during a period of long separation such as military service or travel.  

This ring is currently a UK size O, which is a US size 7 1/4, but it could be re-sized.   It weighs 1.28g

This very special antique ring shows signs of having been re-sized previously, and it is worn down more on one side than the other, but this cannot be noticed when the ring is on the finger. However, given its 100 years + history, it is no surprise that this piece of history shows signs of wear.
