Antique, 9ct Gold, Amethyst Heart and Seed Pearl Swallow Pendant on a 9ct Gold, Fancy Link Chain

This romantic necklace features a 9ct gold swallow decorated in 8 seed pearls. (Romantic symbolism was prevalent in the Victorian era and swallows represented fidelity and love, as swallows mate for life, and always return to their nests). The swallow holds a large engraved puffy heart dangling from its beak, creating some soft movement from the pendant. At the centre of the heart is a large and bright amethyst gemstone in a raised bezel setting.

The heart is fully hallmarked for 9ct Gold, and Chester. The date mark is difficult to see, but its either an O or a C, which would mean 1897 or 1886.

The pendant comes with the stunning 16 inch, 9ct gold fancy link chain in the pictures. It is extremely pretty, even worn alone.
