Antique, 18ct Gold Emerald and Diamond Engagement Ring, 1930s

This is a really pretty, emerald and diamond ring. Crafted in 18ct Gold, this ring comprises a bright rectangular grass green emerald, sandwiched between four old cut diamonds, and a further emerald on each side. The gems are all firmly claw set and the gallery is very slightly raised to allow these magical stones to catch the light.

The hallmark has been rubbed through wear, and all i can make out is the Birmingham mark and what would have been the 18ct gold mark. The date mark has rubbed completely, but given the design of this ring, I would date it to the early 1930s.

This is a really good example of a classic and traditional engagement ring. It is currently a UK size K, which is a US size 5 1/4, but it could be re-sized.

Emeralds have long a symbol of spiritual awareness, protection, love, and wisdom. Ancient Romans and Greeks believed it to be the representative of the Goddess Venus. Hence, they perceived this gemstone as a conveyor of hope and love.
