Antique, 15ct Gold Moonstone and Rose Cut Diamond Snake Ring

This is an exquisite and quite unique antique moonstone and diamond snake ring.  Crafted from a buttery 15ct gold band (with a snake head at each end) the gallery features a large blue/grey moonstone with a wonderful glow in a bezel setting, surrounded by gold floral /leaf decoration and four sparkling rose cut diamonds.

This ring is marked for its makers mark, A & W (Possibly Alabaster and Wilson in Birmingham), and given its style and the presence of rose cut diamonds and 15ct gold, (which stopped being used in 1932), I would date it to the 1920s.  It is a UK size M, which is a US size 6 1/4 and it weighs 3.06g

When Moonstones were first discovered in Ancient Rome, it was believed that they were formed from solidified beams of moonlight. It was also thought that Diana, the goddess of the moon, could be seen within the stone, and that it would bestow love, wisdom and good fortune upon the wearer.   Other cultures have associated the moonstone with good luck powers, and a symbol of love and passion.
