Unusual, Antique, 9ct Gold Garnet, Engraved Padlock Clasp / Pendant

Set in solid 9ct gold, this substantial padlock clasp is in full working order and snaps shut nicely. It is beautifully and ornately engraved on the front and back, and its face features a good sized central cabochon garnet.

The front and back are adorned with beautiful engravings, specifically, a forget me not flower on each shoulder, emphasising the sentiment of this piece.

Antique and vintage jewellery was heavy in symbolism and such padlocks were usually given and worn as love tokens.

This beautiful padlock's versatility means you can either slip it onto a split ring or charm bracelet, or thread a fine chain through its central bale, to wear it as a pendant.

This is a great sized padlock, measuring 3cm long x 2cm wide. It remains in splendid condition, and is a good weight of 3.09g.
