18ct Gold Antique, Victorian Mizpah Ring, Hallmarked, Birmingham 18ct Gold, 1892
18ct Gold Antique, Victorian Mizpah Ring, Hallmarked, Birmingham 18ct Gold, 1892
This beautiful, antique 'Mizpah' ring derives from the Victorian era. It has wonderful clear raised lettering which sit across the centre, spelling, 'Mizpah'. It is fully hallmarked for 18ct Gold, Birmingham and the Victorian year 1892.
The word Mizpah comes from the Old Testament (Genesis 31:49, "And Mizpah; for he said, The Lord watch between me and thee, when we are absent from one another")
Mizpah jewellery was popular during the Victorian era from the mid- to late-1800s and tended to serve as sweetheart jewellery, given to a loved one during a period of long separation such as military service or travel.
This splendid ring is currently a UK size M which is a US size 6 1/2 but it could be re-sized by your local jeweller.
This ring remains in wonderful condition despite the fact it is over 130 years old, with only some evidence of gold testing and repair marks, left by a previous re-size. These soldering marks cannot be seen when the ring is worn, but I have taken their presence into account when pricing this ring.
Please have a look at the pictures and video, and dont hesitate to get in touch if you require any further information.
