9ct Gold, Antique Victorian Turquoise Leaf Hanging Earrings

This is a really beautiful pair of antique hanging earrings.  Crafted from 9ct gold,  and marked as such on their reverse, these hand engraved leaves are decorated beautifully with a claw set turquoise petal at their centre.  Magnificent and life-like chasing all the way over the face of these earrings gives them fabulous texture and allows the light to dance over their surface as they swing from your ears.   

Based on their design and the intricate detailing, I would date these to the late Victorian or very early Edwardian era. 

The earrings hang well from the ears and the leaves measure 1.7cm by 1.5cm.  They weigh a healthy 2.47g.

Leaves were commonly used in antique jewellery to depict fertility and growth.  Ivy leaves in particular traditionally represented the phrase, “Cling to” and were given to lovers, or as parting gifts to a loved one.
